Back on Track: Yoga Revolution, Running and Cycling!
May 15, 2018 / byrunningwhilevegan / Categories : Cycling, Running, Travel, yogaIt’s a been an emotional couple of weeks since Mike and I decided to defer the Zion Half Marathon! Personally, I’ve been feeling a little bit lost, trying to figure out what’s next, both training and life-wise. We got jobs, in opposite directions from each other (mine 4 miles from from where we are currently residing, and Mike’s 40 miles away) which makes our ideal moving plan tricky. A lot of bills that have fallen to the wayside are being dealt with. I’m hoping we’ll be able to finagle Rock’n Roll San Diego or Seattle in a few weeks!
So I’ve taken some time to reflect, and for the time being also disabled my Instagram account. I’d like a little time off to focus on the present and take care of pressing matters both financially and personally, instead of mindlessly scrolling through pictures every time I get bored or sad. Instead of living vicariously through everyone else’s feed, I decided on a whim to disable my account, and give more attention to my own day-to-day. It’s strange, I’m not going to lie, to not go onto social media! It’s going to take a little getting used to. Strava just doesn’t give me the same instant gratification.
When I decided to stop feeling sorry for myself, I realized it was time to roll out the mat and hop back into Yoga Revolution. Because not only am I taking a break from social media, I stopped running and doing yoga. I’m still cycling most days, as it’s my transit to work! So, the workouts are still getting done! I’ve done two runs since mostly cycling and it’s incredible, the difference already. I feel stronger, and I’m faster. I should also admit here that they’ve been shorter runs, three and four miles respectively. But! I am very pleased. I’m also pretty sore all the time – my legs feel the burn!
I joined a gym recently, with a pool, and I’m also hyped to start swimming. Initially I thought 2018 would be the year of a Ragnar Relay and Ultra Marathon for me. As I’ve been cycling, neither of those goals is off the table, but I realize I’d rather complete a triathlon! The cross-training will only make me stronger in terms of my running goals, because honestly, after my last marathon, my ultra goals felt farther out of reach. I don’t want to crawl over a finish line, I don’t want to fall apart at mile 18, or 20, as I usually do. I want a stronger race.
In the last four days I’ve completed Yoga Revolution Days 11 -14. I’ve run. I’ve done Tone It Up Arms, both Bikini Arms and the Fine Toning Arm Routine. I’ve completed Yoga For Beginner’s Mind, Yoga for the Future and Yoga Core Power Wake-Up. Don’t call it a come-back! Haha, or call it just that, honestly it’s how I feel right now!
