Hip Flexibility for all Your Mobility Needs! Seriously, it’s Important. Ask Me How.

I know as of late my blog is starting to look like a Yoga With Adriene fan site, but what can I say? I’m a huge fan and her yoga videos have helped me and my running tremendously. Stumbling across her Yoga For Beginners video on YouTube is what got the fitness ball rolling for me; as I kept practicing more videos, I got the strength (mentally and physically) up to start running around the neighborhood and the rest is history!

One thing I learned from her channel is that we hold emotions in our hips, and it can be such a release (on many ends of the emotional spectrum) to work them in these postures. I’ve heard that from others who practice yoga, and I don’t know where I stand on the emotional part of it, but I do know hip mobility is SUPER IMPORTANT for runners. If I don’t stretch my hips, I feel it in my stride as the miles get logged in. It’s not only an uncomfortable feeling, but it effects the way my whole body moves and puts undo stress on my knees.

We’ve already discussed how important strong glutes are, and for runners, hip mobility works hand in hand. Here are some videos to get right in there, and start loosening up those hips! I swear you’ll feel more flexible during your next run!

2018 was a pretty busy summer for me, race-wise. For the first time in about 10 years, I had weekends off and I signed up for EVERYTHING. The opportunity to be able to race like that was a precious time not lost on me; now that Mike and I have moved to Huntington Beach, I’m […]

Rock’n Roll Cancels the Los Angeles Race Weekend (and I Don’t Know Why, But I Get It)

While hanging out on Instagram last night, I found myself scrolling through the comments on a Rock’n Roll post. And then, I saw it: LOS ANGELES IS CANCELLED! At first I was shocked, saddened, I couldn’t believe the race this past October was the last one! The longer I sat with it, the more it […]

One of my favorite, local, SoCal races, is the Jet Blue Long Beach Marathon! There are a few different race options available during this race weekend, including the half marathon distance, 5k, 20 mile bike ride, and 20 mile bike ride/half marathon combo! The last two years, I’ve run the marathon, which is definitely not […]
