Workout of the Day!
March 15, 2017 / byrunningwhilevegan / Categories : Running, Uncategorized, yogaIn preparation for the LA Marathon, I’ve been incorporating more yoga into my routine. January and Feburary always get to me with the SADS and I fall away from my healthy habits in favor of naps and winter TV. I had a hard time running after work when it was dark and rainy; I just wanted to get home and warm up. I still ran a half marathon in January, but I wasn’t as prepared for it as I would’ve liked to be. I try not to beat myself up over it, as I do believe the winter months are a time to slow down and be cozy. Unfortunately, I didn’t finish the Yoga With Adriene Yoga Revolution series, but after the marathon is over, I’ll get back to it. Marathon training has taken up so much head space – I feel guilty when I’m not training and I’m always thinking about the next run, or I am out there running. An ever-changing work schedule and the holidays also put me out of whack. But now it’s March and I feel a new surge of energy and motivation to work out!
This workout of the day is about five days old. But it was a good one, so I want to talk about it! I was planning on running three miles, and because it was my day off, I had time for yoga vids. I started with Gentle Yoga, as it had been awhile since I’d done standing poses, warriors and twists. I wanted a light vinyasa flow to get back into it! Next up was Runner’s Warm-Up and then 6 Minute Abs. Strong abs not only help with running form, they look great, help with posture, and assist in holding yoga poses! I took Mike’s dog Zooey out for what was going to be a quick jaunt, but turned into seven miles! The weather was perfect, my body felt amazing, we were running along the beach, and the timing was going to be perfect to meet Mike at his office as he got off work. Then we had vegan meatloaf for dinner and I was ready for 10 miles in the morning! Marathon training has been…intense, LOL. My life is consumed by mileage.

I wrote a whole post about my ultra marathon in Alaska and never once showed off my beautiful new medal! I’m definitely the kind of person who keeps all my medals for sentimental value, and so obviously this one has the most value! I just finished Catra Corbett’s book, “Reborn on the Run“, and I […]

If you don’t wear Oofos for recovery, are you even ready for your next run? Seriously, these recovery sandals are game-changers. In full disclosure, I work in a run shop and often times am seeded; given free product to wear, learn about, and recommend to customers. This doesn’t mean we are obligated to wear them, […]

Let me just start by addressing the elephant in the room here; it’s been awhile. A really long while. And even though so many things have stayed the same, things have changed as well! First of all, Mike and I got engaged at the finish line of my first ultra in Alaska — the Anchorage […]

I like your blog! I find it very relatable. I hope your marathon was OK. I stopped running a few years ago and am missing it so much, even though I wasn’t good at it. The psych benefits were the best part.

Thank you so much! The marathon went great, I actually felt goood running it! I can’t wait for the next one, even though training is kind of brutal. With you on the pysche benefits 100%!
