Work with Your Body, Not On It! (Self Love, Mantras, and Training Cycles)
January 8, 2018 / byrunningwhilevegan / Categories : UncategorizedAs I stated a few posts back, I am practicing Yoga With Adriene’s new 30 Days of Yoga series, True! She posts a new series every January, and they are a lot of fun! I never finished Yoga Revolution, so that is on my list of goals this year; last year I was super focused on training for my first marathon, and Mike and lived on opposite sides of LA from each other, so there was a lot of pressure in various aspects of my life. I don’t mean that in a negative way – I ran my first miles over 13.1 last January, and it was awesome going to Santa Monica on the weekends. But when there’s so much going on, some things have to take precedence over others! This year things are different – Mike and I live together and though I plan on some pretty long training runs for LA Marathon in March, I’m taking a much easier (on myself) approach to training this year. I get to, with a small group of other runners, represent LAM this year so I want to enjoy every minute, every mile, of that marathon! I don’t want to struggle like I did with San Antonio, but I’m not looking for a PR either (though I wouldn’t be mad at one!!!). You know, one of those 26.2 mile fun runs!
I’m in the middle of practicing Day 6, which in the YWA universe, means abs day! She said something that really resonated with me, while in the midst of a training cycle, and watching Mike being a training cycle for a 70.3 mile IronMan.
“……feel like you are working with your body, not on it”
I love that.
What are some of your favorite mantras while tackling a challenging workout? Another one I love, which I’ve heard in a different YWA video is “The mind wants to give up before the body does.” I’ve definitely employed that one during a race or six!

Showing off My Ultra Medal
I wrote a whole post about my ultra marathon in Alaska and never once showed off my beautiful new medal! I’m definitely the kind of person who keeps all my medals for sentimental value, and so obviously this one has the most value! I just finished Catra Corbett’s book, “Reborn on the Run“, and I […]

If you don’t wear Oofos for recovery, are you even ready for your next run? Seriously, these recovery sandals are game-changers. In full disclosure, I work in a run shop and often times am seeded; given free product to wear, learn about, and recommend to customers. This doesn’t mean we are obligated to wear them, […]

Let me just start by addressing the elephant in the room here; it’s been awhile. A really long while. And even though so many things have stayed the same, things have changed as well! First of all, Mike and I got engaged at the finish line of my first ultra in Alaska — the Anchorage […]

I’ll also be making flash cards to remember important points for the job, but before that, am stoked to be able to hit the pavement, […]
