Pickle Juice Shots, Minus the Whiskey

The runner and pickle juice – it’s a thing!

The first time I heard about pickle juice shots, a friend was running NYC Marathon with little training. Though, little training for him is my idea of tough training – he got second place in a half marathon recently and is a Boston Qualifier. It just goes to show “out of shape” means different things to everyone, especially it seems, in the running community! Even though I ran a marathon last month, I’m still anxious and feeling not quite half marathon ready. I’m definitely in shape to run, I’m just not in my top form, which is fine. I won’t PR, but I’ll have a lot of fun running in a new city!

Organic, probiotic pickle shots without the pickles!

Back to the pickle shots – his girlfriend had them ready for him at various points along the course. And I googled what the heck guzzling pickle juice was for.

Turns out they help with cramping and dehydration! The vinegar and the salt is a prime combo for runners. And so began my love affair with pickle juice. It’s salty, and it tastes like pickles – what’s not to love??? You’ll have to ask Mike, he gets so grossed out every time I go for it. Which makes them even tastier for some reason.

Prepping for a 7 mile training run in the morning!

Let me just start by addressing the elephant in the room here; it’s been awhile. A really long while. And even though so many things have stayed the same, things have changed as well! First of all, Mike and I got engaged at the finish line of my first ultra in Alaska — the Anchorage […]

I’ll also be making flash cards to remember important points for the job, but before that, am stoked to be able to hit the pavement, […]
