February Run Streak Done – 130 Miles Completed

March 1, 2018   /   byrunningwhilevegan  / Categories :  Running, yoga

I finished my February run streak goal – I ran at least one mile every single day. My grand total for the month was 130 miles, which is more than I’ve ever run in my life. Specifically my life over the past three years, when I became a serious runner. The record I previously held for myself was 111 miles, but that included a couple long walks and hikes – miles are miles!

130 miles, baby!

This time though, I did a run streak, and I counted it on a Garmin, which puts your walking miles in one category and running miles in another, depending on which feature you chose on your watch. When I used my Nike App (which I highly recommend – it’s free and it’s wonderful), long walks, hikes and runs all end up in the same grand total. I’d walk the three miles home from work and I’d go on eight mile hikes, so when I was aiming for a 100 mile month, DAMMIT IF THOSE WEREN’T GOING TO COUNT.

For the first time, I felt comfortable in a yoga pose in front of the camera. Tree pose, amongst the beautiful scenery. It tests your balance and your core; there’s no hiding in a balancing pose.

This was a new experience. One run, every single day. I was in the midst of training for a marathon. I ran 18 miles one weekend and 20 the next. I got tired, I am tired, I got sore, I am sore, but I still did it. I stuck to it. I tried my first trail run, I ran with a few different run clubs from LA to Long Beach and I ran in my hometown in Northern California.

And a running pic! I like this shot because I think I’m soaring. I still have so much to improve upon with my run form, but here I am. I’m ready for LA Marathon (in three weeks, after a sweet taper).

The run streak doesn’t end tonight. I’m going to keep it going for as long as I can. I’m going to have to learn to chill and only do one mile the week before my marathon, I’m going to have to listen to my body and stop when I just can’t, but I like being committed to this. And so I’m going to keep doing it for as long as my legs will let me.
