Britney’s Running Playlist (and now yours too)!January 16, 2017 / byrunningwhilevegan / Categories : Running
Since my teen years, I’ve been running off and on. It hasn’t been until recently that I’ve upped the distance past 5 miles, and stuck with it long term. In high school I was on the swim team, and on weekends I’d work out at the gym with my dad, using the treadmill or stair-stepper, plus weight machines. In college and beyond, I ran sporadically; sometimes I’d have gym memberships and use the treadmill, other times I’d just go run outside. Even though I was running a few times a week, I wasn’t complimenting it with any other kind of workouts. This time around has been different! I started with yoga and gradually came back to running through it. By doing yoga, ab workouts, and arm exercises, my running has greatly improved! I get much less sore, I’m flexible, and I am much more in tune with my body and how to adjust my runs based on any discomfort that shows up. This comes in especially handy when training for races (speed workouts for a 5k, endurance runs for half and full marathons). My body is also much stronger – I didn’t come back to running easily and there was little to no muscle on me when I started this workout journey a little over a year and a half ago. When my friend Britney started training for a 10k, I made her this playlist of my favorite supplemental yoga and ab videos for running. They’ll help strengthen your legs, knees and core, which are all very important for running! The videos range from 8:00 to 30:00 minutes, so you can fit one in no matter the time crunch. I suggest beginning with Yoga to Get The Juices Flowing. It’s a fun and energetic sequence to get you in the mindset for stretching, and with an 8:00 run time, you can either get right to your run afterward, or play another!
I’m obviously very proud of this playlist, and so stoked to have this avenue to share it with you!

I have had gym memberships on and off for my entire adult life. I’d play on sports teams growing up (never very good, and scared of the ball) and was on the swim team in high school! I actually worked at the local gym as well, starting with the Kid’s Club and moving up to […]read more
It’s been about four days since Mike and I ran Rock’n Roll San Diego and I’m still sore from that hilly course! This year I ran it almost exactly ten minutes slower than last year, which was a little bit of a bummer for me. Last year, I did a lot of speed training to […]read more
I just ran Valley Crest Half Marathon, which is kind of a big deal because it was my very first trail race! I found the race one evening while looking up races in SoCal, checked out their website, and slept on the idea for a few days. I signed up about three weeks ago, the same […]read more
Mike and I got back from San Diego a couple hours ago from Rock’n Roll SD, and I’m still feeling the glow and excitement of our visit. We got on the road to SD yesterday afternoon for a whirlwind 18 hours of eating, sleeping and running a half marathon! While there are so many delicious […]read more
I haven’t been running very much lately, which is pretty odd for me! This month, May, I will probably log in around 40 miles total, running-wise. Cycling however, is much different! I’ve logged in 160.4 miles already this month! I cycle to and from work, and the commute to work is uphill. I can already […]read more
